How zones work
Zones define the geographic regions where particular service methods are applied or where products are shipped. To give you more granular control, Shiptoall supports Subzones, letting you calculate rates based on postal or ZIP codes for highly specific shipping rules.Shiptoall automatically creates a Rest of the World zone, covering every country not explicitly assigned to other defined zones.
Create a zone
Shiptoall -> Shipping Zone
Let’s create a single zone to test your setup. A zone can include one or more countries or regions.
1
Click the 'Create Zone' Button
- Enter a name for your zone (for example, “USA”).
2
Add Countries or Regions
- Zones are inactive by default until countries or regions are assigned.
- Select the countries or regions to include. For now, choose USA, which covers all states. Later, you can narrow it down to specific states and update the zone name accordingly.
- Toggle the zone status to On to activate it. You can manage this at any time from the zone list page.
- Optionally, click Add Subzone to create more targeted shipping rules. We’ll explain subzones in detail later, so you can skip this step for now.
Create a SubZone
Shiptoall -> Shipping Zone -> 'USA' -> Add Subzone
We’ll create a single subzone under the USA zone we set up earlier. A subzone can contain multiple postal codes or ZIP codes within the parent country or region. See the format examples below:
| Postal code types | Value / Format |
|---|---|
| Individual postal codes | 90210, 90002, 90003, 9004 |
| Postal code ranges | 90002:90026 |
| combination | 90210, 90002, 90003, 90002:90026 |
1
Click the 'Add Subzone' Button
- Enter a name for your subzone (for example, “California”).
- Add postal codes or ZIP codes, separated by commas or using ranges as shown in the table above.
- Click Create to finalize the subzone.
Multiple Subzones allow more precise shipping rules and can overlap in postal or ZIP codes. They are useful when certain services apply to specific areas while other cover multiple areas.
Properties
Countries included in a zone cannot be used in other zones. For example, if the USA (all states) is assigned to one zone, it won’t be available for
another zone, such as a separate California zone.
Standard
Always ensure postal codes are correctly formatted and cover the accurate range, as proper input is required for precise rate calculations.
United Kingdom
When using the ‘United Kingdom’ postal code type, all entries are validated for correct UK formatting before saving. Only valid UK postcodes or
prefixes are accepted; codes from other countries cannot be used.
