How Packages Work

Multiple package configurations can be created to improve the accuracy of shipping rates, whether using carrier-based or custom pricing. Packages also support Smart Packing system, where dimensions and measurements are calculated to optimize packaging and shipping combinations, minimizing costs while ensuring efficient delivery.

Create a package

Shiptoall -> General Settings -> Packages

Let’s create a single package to test your setup.
Outer measurements are only required, while inner dimensions are optional.

Click the 'Add Package' Button

  • Enter a name for your package (for example, “Small Box”).
  • Select a package type, such as Rigid Box or Soft Package.
  • Provide the Outer dimensions.
  • Specify other properties as needed.

Properties

Max Weight
Package
The maximum weight capacity of the package. Products are assigned to packages according to this limit. This value is especially important for carrier-based services, as exceeding it may lead to extra fees or shipping restrictions.
Empty Weight
Package
The weight of the package itself when empty. This is only considered if the package weight has a meaningful impact on carrier rate calculations.
Package Cost
Package
The handling or packaging cost assigned to this package. This amount is added to the shipping cost at checkout.
Package Type
Package
Box
Use when the package has fixed dimensions and does not expand or compress.
Soft Package
Use when the package height (or thickness) can flex or adjust based on the product dimensions.
